This painting was made around the idea of a brief connection that does not last, but still leaves a mark. Two figures stand apart, each on a different ledge, each in their own world, and for a moment they are looking at the same thing: a pair of birds crossing the canyon under the night sky.
Nothing happens between them in any literal sense. What matters is the shared second of silence and awe. The kind of meeting that arrives suddenly, feels immense, and disappears before it can be held onto.
When the birds are gone, nothing remains except memory.
